Located on a hill next to the fishing village of Armintza, in one of the most beautiful enclaves of the Basque Coast, the Arresi is a very special, welcoming, small family-owned hotel, inaugurated in the year 2000. Standing at the foot of the mountain and surrounded by large and lovely gardens, within a large country estate with a vineyard, this spacious modern country inn has splendid views over the small fishing village of Armintza and the Bay of Biscay. The rocky coves near the hotel are ideal for fishing and swimming.
Hotel Arresi has just nine spacious double rooms and one suite. The rooms, all ensuite and with private terraces, have telephone, television, minibar and are attractively decorated in pastel tones. Hotel facilities include a swimming pool, open in the summer months, tennis court, sauna, children’s play house, three salons, bar-cafeteria and several terraces for relaxing.
Its splendid installations and the hospitality of its owners make it a place for a relaxing spell in a peaceful environment. It offers a balanced mixture of sea, mountain and cultural activities. Although the hotel has no restaurant the owner’s son has a restaurant a short walk away in the port serving Basque cooking.
Armintza is tucked away into the hills and cliffs north-east of Bilbao – you’d never know that the city and airport were within easy reach. There are several bars and restaurants in the port, sea fishing from rocky coves along the coast, a golf course at nearby Laukariz y La Galea, and walking/mountain biking in the hills around. In the surroundings there are many coastal villages, famous for its beaches and summer atmosphere (Plentzia, Gorliz, Bakio…) and also cities like Gernika, San Sebastian y Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The shoreline from Bilbao around the coast of Vizcaya, east into neighboring Guipuzcoa province to Getaria and San Sebastián and the River Adour, separating Bayonne and Biarritz from the Landes in the north is a succession of colorful ports, ocher beaches, and green hills.
Graceful, chic San Sebastián invites you to slow down, stroll the beach, and wander the streets. The Cantabrian Sea and the Pyrenees create the backdrop of a landscape composed of all shades of green, rugged coasts with short estuaries, and mountains covered with beech and oak.
