Another quality hotel in the Derby chain (they also own the Balmes and the Claris), this 1950s branch (renovated in the 1990s) is high up in the Eixample, close to where Carrer Enric Granados meets the Diagonal. The Art Deco facade makes it appear older than it is, and the high ceilings, geometric designs, and brass-studded detail in the public rooms are strongly influenced by Moorish and Andalusian styles. All guest rooms are comfortable, midsize, and soundproof, with slick louvered closets and gleaming white walls. Accommodations come equipped with private bathrooms containing showers. The more old-fashioned units have warm textures of exposed cedar and elegant, pristine modern accessories. Recent welcome additions are the rooftop pool and sauna. The Astoria is an exceptional value.
