This little hotel in the Costa Brava is ideal for R&R. It's perched on a hill over the town of Pallafrugell, a ten minute drive down the hill to the several local coves, some with quiet beaches and some with lively pedestrian and restaurant scenes. We started one perfect day with an early morning swim at Aiguablava beach, a tranquil clear-watered cove with little boats bobbing just past the swimming area, and returned to the hotel in time for the included buffet breakfast where the breads and petit croissants were so good we knew we had to be fairly near France. Then a restful few hours in shaded lounge chairs watching butterflies flit among the carefully planted flower borders with not a sound to be heard but birds and buzzing bees, and some laps in the decent-sized swimming pool with the hillside view.
Our room was in the main building, which meant no air conditioning but plenty of charm and a two-person tub. The newer buildings have A/C and eco-roofs, and there is a spa whose services we did not try. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. The other guests were pleasant and everyone seemed in tune with the peace of the place, even though there were families as well as couples. We were sad to leave.
