As business hotels go, the Calderón has two things in its favor, and is therefore a good value for the money: One, its location -- it is situated right on the leafy promenade of Rambla de Catalunya with its pavement cafes and tapas bars, and is just minutes from the Barri Gòtic. Two, its size -- it is huge, with plenty of amenities for those who need stay-at-home comforts with gargantuan, bright, airy bedrooms with plenty of modern conveniences and spacious en-suite bathrooms.

Efficiently maintained and well staffed with a multilingual corps of employees, this hotel delivers exactly what it promises: comfortable accommodations in a well-conceived, standardized format that's akin to many other modern hotels around the world. Originally built in the 1960s, this 10-story hotel wasn't particularly imaginative then, but was greatly improved in the early 1990s after its acquisition by the NH Hotel Group, with frequent renovations ever since. Accommodations have comfortable, contemporary-looking furnishings with hints of high-tech design, good lighting, lots of varnished hardwood, and colorful fabrics. All units have bathrooms with tub/shower combos.
