The 4 star Palacio Urgoiti is a 17th Century Palace located in the heart of a 9 hole Golf Pitch & Putt and dominating the nearby mountains. The Hotel is a beautiful 11 acre retreat located minutes away from Bilbao. The beaches of Plentzia and Bakio are only 15 minutes away where you can swim or just lay in the sun. Like a lifesize puzzle, the building was taken down stone by stone from its original location and thirty years later, in an impressive and arduous effort of cataloguing and preserving all its artistic elements, the family has fulfilled its dream of rebuilding it exactly the way it was originally.

Palacio Urgoiti is a singular hotel in every aspect, from its magnificent building and elegant decor to its history.  Originally located in Galdakao until the end of 1969, then in 2005 the building was moved to its present location when the new motorway Bilbao-Behobia was laid out, in an impressive and arduous effort of cataloguing and preserving all its artistic elements.

All the 43 charming rooms (suites, junior suites, superior, standard and singles) are spacious and enjoy beautiful views of the golf course. The rooms are tastefully decorated and offer the maximum level of comfort for guests who wish to work and for those wishing to relax for a few days. All the rooms are equipped with a 20-inch plasma TV, Wireless and Adsl Internet access, spacious wardrobes and marble bathrooms, all combining an exquisite décor with the greatest comfort.

Golf: Surrounding the building of Hotel Palacio Urgoiti is a beautifully designed 9-hole Pitch & Putt golf course. Carefully integrated into the surrounding landscape of trees, rough and lakes, this Par 3 course provides hole length variations of 90-120 metres. The site also features a putting green, a driving range and an approach area with a bunker. The longitude of the holes is between 90 mts. and 120 mts. and is not necessary to be a member to play. Excellent English speaking teachers are available for those wishing to learn or improve their golf skills.

Food & Drink: Overlooking the golf course, Harria, the Palacio Urgoiti’s restaurant, offers a very pleasant atmosphere, where you can enjoy an elaborate cuisine based on the rich gastronomic tradition of the Basque Country. Using local produce the chef prepares the freshest of ingredients for use in his inventive menus, with special emphasis on promoting local dishes and wines.

Palacio Urgoiti also offers a private dining room as well as several reception rooms for different types of events. Restaurant Harria boasts a nice decoration where the large windows are in contrast with the beam ceiling and the modern paintings and the warmth of the fireplace during winter. In addition, the restaurant offers 2 spacious terraces, ideal for cocktail parties or pre-dinner drinks.

Hotel Palacio Urgoiti provides an ample breakfast Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 10:00. Weekends and public holidays from 8:00 to 11:00. Lunch: Daily all week, from 13:00 to 15:30. Dinner: Monday to Friday, from 20:00 to 22:30.Weekends and public holidays from 20:00 to 23:00. Lunches and dinners cost around Eur 45.

Hotel Palacio Urgoiti bar-cafeteria has 2 different ambiances, an indoor and elegant area and an outdoor, relaxing terrace. Both are ideal for tea and coffee parties at any time of the day. In the morning, you will enjoy an assorted breakfast including fresh daily products, either indoor or outdoor.

Driving Directions: From any motorway around Bilbao, go towards Mungia- Aeropuerto (N 631 motorway). Take the exit Artebakarra – Laukariz. At the exit, turn right towards Laukariz. After approximately 500 mts, you will see the Golf Hotel Palacio Urgoiti on your left up on the hill. Once you reach the roundabout, turn left.

    Miguel de Unamuno wrote one of the best definitions of the Basque countryside: "everything seems to be at your fingertips, made to order for the people who reside here and give it life; it is a domestic landscape, homelike, where more earth than sky can be seen". Bizkaia's inland valleys are uneven and beautiful, with high mountains and low valleys cloaked in legends and deep valleys with a marked rural flavour. The Encartaciones is land of battles between different sides and tower houses, many of them perfectly kept that will take us, magically, to an enchanted past.

    The region of Alava's western valleys presents an outstanding natural landscape. In the north we find the valleys of Zuia and Ayala, with their refreshing waterfalls and solid tower-houses. In the south, we can find singular landscapes such as the Salinas de Añana and the ravine of the Valderejo Natural Park. The Alava Plain has been always a passing route for many pilgrims and traders.

    Following the course of the river Oria and under the unmistakable silhouette of the Txindoki mountain we will find settled Tolosaldea, a county that better has kept alive its Basque cultural and folk traditions, along with Goierri. In order to know deeply this region's characteristics we must visit municipalities like Idiazabal, famous because of its worldly famous cheese, Segura and Zerain. Finally, we'll go to Ormaiztegi where, for instance, we can visit Zumalakarregi's historic museum.
